This is the report about my journey in August 2006 to places in Myanmar, which I wanted to visit especially in the rainy season.

My guide had already accompanied me for several times. The advantage of such an individual tour is, that you can stop wherever you want, or even change the itinerary if it makes sense. For example one day we visited the grandmother of our driver against our schedule. Another day we preferred to walk down the long way for pilgrims instead of riding a truck. - Such a tour with rather old cars is not very comfortable, but the extraordinary experiences recompense you.

My destinations on this excursion:

  • the large roter pfeil reclining Buddha image near Mudon, still under construction
  • the Yele-hpaya-pagoda upon a rock in the sea in front of Kyaikkami,
  • the roter pfeil Golden Rock with the Kyaik-htiyo-pagoda,
  • the Nats in the Hintagone-pagoda of Bago,
  • the Nats upon the Mount Popa and
  • Bagan and its thousands of pagodas.
Myanmar, the country Myanmar, central region

From the very beginning I intended to give an impression of this fascinating country with photos, videoclips and a diary, like a view through a keyhole. It is my view and cannot be impartial. The country is well known for its immense treasures, historical sites and friendly folks, but also for its military government. The life of Myanmar people reflects both these aspects.

An English translation of the diary is not available. Nevertheless a visit to the pages will be of interest for non-Germans, as there are self-explanatory photos and videoclips, in addition to comments in English! You need only rest your cursor on an image to read the comments.

Clicking on an image displays an enlarged image.

I believe, that the short video clips contain more information than a still photo. All clips last less than one minute, so they enable a comfortable download. The "large" clips are of good quality (size 640 x 480 pixel), but they are jerky on slow computers. There are additional "small" clips (384 x 288 pixel) with acceptable quality.

Heat, humidity, dryness, sweat, smell and hardship cannot be experienced (at least not quite yet), so you should go and experience them yourself!
